Reflections Meets Días Nórdicos:

Musical Hybrid from three Continents

It’s going to be a musical hybrid from three continents when SPOT and Roots&Hybrids join forces to present the project “Reflections Meets Días Nórdicos”.

From Gambia, there is Dawdaa Jobarteh, who updates and carries on the traditions on the beautiful harp-like, West African instrument the kora. From Argentina, we have the songwriter and guitarist Lucio Mantel (whose merits include collaborative project with Teitur). Finally, from Denmark there is Mette Dahl Kristensen, who will rearrange songs by both musicians and perform them live together with both of them and the string quartet Who Killed Bambi.

The seeds of this remarkable collaborative project were sown in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires in December, where Mette Dahl Kristensen rearranged a number of Lucio Mantel’s distinctive compositions and performed them with an Argentinian string quartet during the culture festival Días Nórdicos. This whetted both Kristensen’s and Mantel’s appetite for a continuation of the collaboration, and then Det Turkise Telt’s Reflectionsinitiative, which focuses on exactly this kind of genre-mixing and cross-cultural work, brought Gambian-born, Danish resident Dawda Jobarteh into the mix.

The idea is now that Mette Dahl Kristensen is going to rearrange compositions by both musicians – also in order for them to be able to contribute on each other’s compositions resulting in an African-Argentinian-Danish fusion.  To be performed at the festival after a three-day work shop. Indeed, a collaborative project that will cross borders, cultures and music genres….

Días Nórdicos is a festival that presents Nordic music and culture in Spain (since 1990) and in Latin America (since 2014). ROSA – The Danish Rock Council has been a musical partner and co-organizer since the first edition of the festival. Over the years Spanish/Latin American acts have also been showcased at SPOT.

Reflections is an initiative created by The Turquoise Tent in Aarhus. Reflections focuses on the intersection of music, traditions and people. We are mirrored in our city, in our surroundings and reflect the communities we are a part of. With Reflections we celebrate this meeting and experiment with the possibilities of the concert.
