With the increasing focus on commercial songwriting and music publishing, we look at the many possibilities for selling music internationally. The introductory keynote “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” is followed by a debate about the successful Swedish music publishers – and the Norwegian and Danish, who are on their way – before we end with the panel “How To Win The Eurovison”, which, among others, include songwriter Laurell Barker (CA), who has three songs in this year’s Eurovision-finals in Israel.

Nordic Music Publishing: Who’s Next?

The Swedes has owned the international songwriting scene for years, but now the other Scandinavian countries are closing in with a new generation of strong and talented songwriters. So, what is it with the Nordic songwriters? Is it a certain Nordic sound, or are they just experts at writing great songs for the international market? This panel will try to come up with some answers.

Søren Winding is the co-founder of Tigerspring, which is a publisher and label representing international writers and artists, from grammy nominated songwriter Jörgen Elofsson to new hitmakers like Sly and David Dehiro. They’ve delivered songs to several number one albums in territories such as the US and Japan and have worked with artists ranging from The Chainsmokers and John Newman to David Guetta.

Christian Fløe

Publishing Director, GL Music (DK)
Christian is the publishing director and one of four partners at leading Nordic independent publishing company GL Music. He joined GL Music a year into the creation of the publishing arm, and has grown it alongside the other partners to a roster of more than 10 writers and producers who’s credits include Selena Gomez, Olly Murs, Chelcee Grimes, Alexander Oscar, Clara, De Dødelige and many many more.

Ben Malén

Managing director, Senior A&R, The Bank (SE)
After more than 500.000 sold records as frontman of one of Sweden’s biggest pop groups, Trance Dance, Ben decided to change career. Today he is managing director at one of the fastest growing music publishing firms in Sweden, the Swedish division of the Danish firm, The Bank. During his career, Ben has held managing director positions at Air Chrysalis Scandinavia and Germany, and started Stereoscope Music Scandinavia.

Kai Robøle

Founder, Arctic Rights Management (NO)
Music publisher Kai Robøle have many years of experience in the industry, with a large local and international network. In 2018 Robøle founded Norwegian music publisher Arctic Rights Management, to ensure that the rights of Norwegian composers and music publishers are managed locally, seeing off tough competition from major international players.

How To Win The Eurovision

The panel consists of experienced songwriters and publishers who all successfully work with the Eurovision in one way or another. We will try to find out whether there is a difference between writing songs for the Eurovision and ordinary pop songs? Also, how do you work as a songwriter and publisher with the Eurovision in Sweden, and why is it so big there? We will also talk to Mads Enggaard from DR/Danish National TV about how the selection process takes place in Denmark and what he sees as a good Eurovision song and performance.

Anders Fredslund-Hansen

Anders Fredslund-Hansen founded TheArrangement in the beginning of 2019, which besides working with publishing, is also a record label, artist & producer management, and music consulting agency. For many years, Anders has been working in the field of music and TV and the Eurovision, with up to 50 songs the last 15 years, including 2013’s winner ’only Teardrops’.

Linnea Deb

Songwriter and vocalist
Linnea is a songwriter and vocalist. Her songs have more than 460 million streams on Spotify and she was appointed ’Songwriter Of The Year’ 2014 for her contributions to Swedish Eurovision, one of them being the 2015 winner 'Heroes' with Måns Zelmerlöw.

Mads Enggaard

Singer, Producer, DR
Mads Enggaard is an educated singer from RMC and has worked with music shows on television since 2008. From 2014 he has worked on 5 Eurovisions/Junior Eurovisions as producer of all the competing countries' entries. In 2018 he became a contest producer for the Danish Eurovision, where he facilitates the process of selecting songs and artists, while also being responsible for the visual aspects of the contributions in the competition.

Thomas Wallén

Representing Wrethov Music/Andreas Stone Music - Winners of Melo 2019 in Sweden, Frontrunner
Frontrunner Music Publishing is a small but strong publisher with internationally established songwriters and producers. The company mainly work with administration and pitching and creative advisory, for songwriters with their own publishing companies, such as Wrethov Music and Andreas Stone Music. Anderz Wrethov and Andreas Stone Johansson co-wrote Swedens entry, John Lundvik's ’Too Late For Love’, for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest coming up in May.

Laurell Barker

Songwriter
Laurell is a Canadian singer/songwriter. Winner of ’Dance Recording of the Year’ at the 2018 Junos (Canadian Grammy’s), she released 5 top #40 Canadian singles in her solo career before songwriting launched her into 20 new countries over the last 2 years. Laurell is also known to be the first female writer to have 3 songs in the Eurovision Song Contest at one time, with tunes representing Germany, Switzerland and the UK in the competition this year.
