New Strong Nordic Voices

SPOT is happy to announce new exciting and diverse Nordic acts to this year’s festival line-up. Headed by Sofie Tollefsbøl, Norwegian Fieh presents melodious, groovy and funky pop, which prompted the following comment from none other than Sir Elton John on his Apple radio show: “I love it”. They have just played Eurosonic, and in the beginning of February they are going on their first UK tour so they have a lot of things going right now.

Then we have their compatriot Hôy la (aka Ingri Høyland), who belongs in the department of dark, misty trip-hop – just listen to the brand new single “Saturday” (or watch the video!) – a sample from the debut ep “X-heads”. From even further North we have Fufano – by now an experienced trio, who have already garnered a lot of attention beyond Iceland with their music, which has roots in post-punk, new wave, etc. KEXP made a show with them in 2016.

One of the Danish additions – Boundaries – has got post-punk inclinations too. Jonas Wetterslev, also known from The Entrepreneurs, is in the line-up. (by the way: he also co-produced Hoy La’s single “Purple”). Drowned in Sound has already shown interest in the group. Mags is deep synth-infected pop, The Chairman champions an ambitious kind of chamber pop while the metal scene is represented by Wayward Down, who will also take their death metal to live venues in Germany and Slovakia later this year.

At the same hard end of the of the scale we also find punk-heavy Nyt Liv – with strong manifestos in Danish. A couple of more acts excel in the Danish Language: Tomrum with their electronic r’n’b and hip-hop and Aksglæde who sells out Danish venues with his infectious, melodious electro pop.
