Mød Drowned in Sound

Inden SPOT Festival 2019 introducerer vi dig til flere af de internationale branchepersoner, som har bekræftet deres deltagelse på årets SPOT Festival. Her kan du møde Dom Gourlay fra Drowned In Sound. Du kan møde alle MXD’s internationale gæster til MXD’s Superbowl, vores årlige SPOT networking-arrangement mellem den internationale og danske musikbranche, som finder sted lørdag d. 4. maj i Aarhus Bowlinghal.

Name: Dom Gourlay

Company: Drowned In Sound

Based in: Nottingham, UK

Can you tell us a bit about the media’s history and profile? The site started in 2000 and I have been writing for them since 2001. During that time Drowned In Sound also launched a record label, has been responsible for curating stages at festivals around the world and hosted numerous shows, club nights and events. Its online community has been one of the biggest on the internet since the site’s inception, and although the editorial part of Drowned in Sound ceased publishing in May of this year, the message boards continue to be a hive of activity.

– and a bit about the acts you personally have covered recently? Two of my last pieces for Drowned In Sound would be interviews with Crows and The Twilight Sad. I also write for Under The Radar and Gigwise and have recently interviewed Fontaines DC and Amyl & The Sniffers as well as writing live reviews of The Orielles and Suede.

What was the moment you decided you wanted to work with music? I wrote for fanzines when I was a teenager and continued to write and promote throughout my time at University up to the present day.

What are your favourite Danish acts? My favourite Danish acts of all time are probably Mew and The Raveonettes. Favourite label is definitely Crunchy Frog. Four bands I’m really looking forward to seeing at SPOT this year are Collider, Catch The Breeze, The Entrepreneurs and Twin Dive.

Best show you’ve ever seen hands down?Difficult to pick one so I’ll choose 3.

My Bloody Valentine & The Boo Radleys @ Leicester Polytechnic, December 1991.

Manic Street Preachers @ London O2 Arena, December 2011.

The Cure @ Bestival, September 2011.
