Linn Koch-Emmery: “Stay single and sad – or at least mess up your relationship a bit by flirting with someone else.”
Artist Talk: Linn Koch-Emmery
Who are you? (When did you start, what is your musical background?)
I’m Linn Koch-Emmery. Long hair, mostly seen wearing a pair of worn-out jeans petting a dog somewhere in Stockholm. I started a band with my friends in high school and has been writing music since. This is my solo project and so far, I have released two EPs.
What type of music do you play – genre, expression, mood?
Indie rock/pop. Straight-forward melodies smudged in by noisy guitars. Balancing on the edge of euphoria and sadness at the same time, depends on how many drinks you had.
What was your first musical experience?
I played the flute in primary school. It was old and full of rust and I ruined at least 3 years of Christmas concerts before I begged my mom to let me try sports instead.
What are your sources of inspiration – other bands, people, experiences?
Don’t be too happy. I’d actually say: stay single and sad – or at least mess up your relationship a bit by flirting with someone else.
What is your ambition playing at SPOT?
To find a boyfriend.
Have you ever played abroad? – If yes, where and how was it different?
Mexico
Netherlands
United States
Norway
Switzerland
Germany
United Kingdom
In order of most fun to least. Just kidding.
What is your dream as a musician?
To be able to reach the top. I guess you need to set up systematic goals along the way. I have both subjective goals, like remembering to tune my guitar between songs and objective goals like playing SPOT festival. Now one of these have been reached!
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far?
Start a band. Being a solo artist is ruining me financially at the moment.
